Halloween Howl note in backpack Scholastic book orders due Monday 19th October Today was a very busy day!! -We had music at the beginning of the day - Ask me what we did. -We had to write a modern day version of Cinderella. Ask me about my story. - In math time we played a place value game and used the computers to work on place value activities in mathletics. Can you help me get faster at logging in to mathletics? It took us a long time to get in to the website! -This afternoon we discovered all about liquids. We did an experiment where we used our senses to investigate different types of liquid. - We learned what transparent, translucent and opaque mean. Ask me all about it! - At the end of the day we went to gym with Mrs Roworth. Reminders -
Deadline for photograph orders is Monday October 19th - Today's wonder was "Why do snails leave slime trails?" - Ask me about this. - We worked on morning message then moved on to write about our long weekend. - Im math we did a place value activity at the smart board. We learned that - 257 = 200+50+7. - We also spent some time at math centres . - In the afternoon we did silent reading before going off to our reading groups. - Music and gym ended the day - ask me what I did there. - Today we earned 7 marbles!!! Ms Keir's class still needs one more volunteer for Teacher's Pet. Individual photos are in backpacks. - Today's Wonder of the Day was about Mozart and his music. Ask me what I learned about him. - We did a written morning message, then we moved on to a journal prompt. Today it was "The Best Thing About Being a Dog". Ask me what I wrote! - We had gym after recess. We continued to work on our skills with frisbies. - In math we did a math problem - There are 10 marbles in a box. Some are green. Some are yellow. There are 2 more yellow marbles than green marbles. How many yellow marbles are there? - After lunch it was silent reading, then on to reading groups. - We did the last part of our Mona Lisa art to end the day. Today:
-we had music with Mrs. Henderson. Ask me what I did. -we read Dr. Seuss' newest book "What pet would you choose?" We wrote about the pet we would choose. We had to give reasons and add detail. Ask me what pet I would like to have. -we used the watercolor pencils to color our "States of Matter" art. We used water and paintbrushes after coloring. Ask me what the 3 states of matter are. -we read a story about water and watched a video song about the water cycle. We made a creative journal page about the water cycle. Water doesn't just come out of thin air you know. It goes around and around. Precipitation, Evaporation, Condensation. -we had gym with Mrs. Rowarth. We played some games with a frisbee. Reminders - Volunteers still needed for our Teacher' Pet Field trip on October 27th. (This is an in-school field trip). 9.00am-11.am
- Today when we arrived at school Olaf had melted! We put the melted Olaf into a pan and boiled him. We saw him in three different states - solid, liquid and gas. Ask me what happened. We drew our last pictures in our journal to show what we observed. - We did some art work on watercolour paper using the watercolour pencils to illustrate what happened to Olaf. - In the afternoon, after silent reading we went to our reading groups. - Ask me about Music and gym Reminders -
We need a total of six volunteers for our Teacher's Pet in School field trip on Tuesday October 27th at 9-11am Today: -Olaf the iceman showed up in our classroom to teach us about states of matter. We made a prediction (a smart guess) about what we thought would happen. We drew a picture of Olaf and made an observation. We talked about how we use our five senses to make observations. -We wrote about our weekend -We went to gym. Ask me what I did. -In the afternoon we had lots of Ketchup time -At the end of the day we did a Mad Lib. Ask me what a noun, verb and adjective are -Ms Keir read some of The Land of Stories. It's starting to get exciting! October calendar home. Lunch order sheet coming home. We are looking for volunteers (3 from each class) for our first "in-school field trip" about the Acadians from 9-11 am on October 27th. Please let us know if you are able to volunteer.
Today: -our wonder was "What team is the most successful sports team of all time?" -we did Minute to Win it. It was a hard one. Ask me what the challenge was. -we are bringing home some fall poems to share with you. We talked about the -ight word family and how in a poem, rhyming words are found at the end of a line. Mrs. Byciuk talked to us about Personification. Ask me what personification means. -we had some Ketchup time. We will continue with this on Monday. Today
-our wonder was about why/how a cat purrs. -we were given a journal prompt about being silly. We had to write 3 paragraphs: "Silly is __________" -we continued to work on place value. We did some smart board activities. We built numbers using rods (tens) and units (ones). We are doing great with this. -we had gym with Mrs. Byciuk. We worked on frisbee skills and played Impossible Tag. -we had Reading Groups. Ask me what I did. -we started our pencil work on our Mona Lisa art. Ask me where my Mona Lisa is. |
