We learned about non-fiction writing today. We followed the checklist (picture is below) and looked at different non-fiction duck books to see how the authors organize and write their books.
Our ducklings have been having so much fun visiting the homes of some of our students. The students that take them home keep a journal and take pictures of the things that they have been doing with the ducklings. Lincoln wrote in the journal that he "filled his mom's sink and gave them a bath." Lilly wrote that she "watched the ducklings dive under water." Please check out the pictures and videos below. We used water colours to paint our sketches of our ducklings. We labeled the body parts like scientists do.
We used our senses to become scientists and we investigated 4 different eggs. We touched, smelled and looked a the eggs and wrote about what animal we think it came from and what we noticed about the egg. What animal do you think the eggs came from?
As a group we discussed what we think we know about ducks and what we want to learn about ducks. We then wrote about it in our visual journal. See a sample below of some of our writing on sticky notes.
Our ducklings (Pekin ducks) arrived from BC on Thursday. They are 3 days old. We will have them for 3-4 weeks and then they will go and live at the memorial center (funeral home) until the duck release day on June 18. We are excited that we will get to attend the duck release celebration where we will get to see the ducks swim in their new pond home at the memorial center. We named our ducks this morning. We can't tell yet if they are male or female so we just guessed. Fuzzy is the lightest coloured duckling. Cutie Patootie's tail is starting to turn white. Bob has a brown spot on his face and Waddles has brown on his chest. Check out our pictures and video below. |
