Dear Families,
We started our day off with morning meeting. During morning meeting we talked about Hats On for Mental Health Day. We talked about stress and the students shared their feelings and ideas about what stress is for them. Tomorrow we will talk about different ways to handle stress.
During Daily Five we had a chance to choose 2 jobs. Ask me which literacy choices I made today. We talked about the word families for "ail". Ask me what words we can make that have 'ail" in them.
We read Cinderella and created a story wheel about the characters, problem, setting and solution.
After lunch Mrs. Caravan's class went to buddies and Mrs. Predika's class read a fractured fairly tale titled Bubba the Cowboy Prince. Ask me how this story was different from the traditional Cinderella story.
After the story we had time to finish our popsicle stick puppets and practice our plays. Two of our groups had a chance to preset their plays to the class.
We ended our day with tennis in the gym.
Yesterday your child brought home a tree for Arbour day which is on
May 4th. Please see below for instructions on how to plant your tree.
Have a great evening!

How to Plant Your Arbour Day Tree
General Guidelines
Plant your Arbour Day tree in your garden as soon as possible.
Please provide assistance to children who are planting their trees.
Give your tree enough room to grow. It can grow to be 15-20 metres tall.
Plant your tree at least four metres away from other trees, shrubs or buildings. Avoid planting under power lines.
Keep your tree cool and moist.
Handle your tree gently, since the roots break easily.
Planting Instructions
- 1| Dig a hole, wider than seems necessary, so that the roots can spread without crowding.
- 2| Remove the plastic bag from the tree roots.
- 3| Spread the roots in the hole and cover them quickly with soil.
- 4| Press the soil firmly around the roots and water the tree.
- 5| Please take care of your tree by watering regularly when the soil is dry.
Remember, not too much, you don’t want to drown your tree. - 6| Protective woodchip or pine needle mulch is a tree’s best friend. Spread mulch
to a diameter of 3 feet around the tree and no higher than 3 inches. This will reduce weeds and grass, retain moisture and protect the trunk from lawnmower damage. Ensure that the mulch does not touch the tree’s trunk. - 7| Please protect the tree with a small fence while it is still small.
