We will be making "trunks" for Social Studies. In order for this to be successful, each student will need a shoebox (adult size) in order to put artifacts in throughout the rest of the year! Please send these in as soon as you can, as we will need them by Feb 2. Feel free to send in any extra boxes that you may have. Tomorrow, students will be bringing home a sheet for you to fill out. We would like to make a timeline of when all of our families first came to Canada. Each student will be making their piece of the timeline. We are looking to find out the most recent arrival (whether it is from mom or dad's side), what year they came and where they came from. For example, Mrs. Byciuk's dad first arrived in Canada in 1966 from England.
Today:
-we had math message. We added up 2 ten frames.
-we talked about making good impressions. What should we do in order to make a good impression with new friends? Books/stories need to make a good first impression as well. Good writers can make a good first impression by having an interesting beginning. They can use:
1) a sound
2) dialogue/conversation
3) a problem
4) a simple statement or fact
5) an action
6) a question.
We read some examples of beginnings and had to look for some in books.
-we had gymnastics with Ms. Keir.
-we silent read.
-we watched a Brain Pop video about temperature. We had a discussion about temperature. We learned about what kinds of temperatures are hot and what kinds of temperatures are cold. We made a creative journal page about what we know about hot and cold and what we wonder about.
