Thank you to all of our volunteers for our field trip today. We couldn't do it without you! Our trip turned out amazing. We did get rain, but it was during lunch so we just moved inside. What luck! Your children will have many things to share with you tonight about all the things they learned!

Tomorrow is our field trip! We will be leaving first thing in the morning, so students must be on time. Volunteers are welcome to come at 8:00 with their children. If you are driving or getting a ride down, please stop by in the morning for your package with map, group and schedule. We are aiming to be at Bar U ranch for 9:15 or 9:30. Please send students dressed for the weather (it is supposed to rain) in layers. Students should bring a lunch and snacks as well as a water bottle in a back pack. Bug spray/sunscreen can be put on at home and can be sent (optional).
Did you know? Honeybees have 2 stomachs, used for carrying extra pollen back to the hive. Today: -we had music. -in wonderopolis, we learned about the "Ice Man". Ask me what this means. It was so interesting! -we worked on our Chicken Soup poem for May. -we went over the math problem from yesterday, solving it together. We were given a similar problem as a challenge. We found it very challenging. We need to show all of our thinking and persevere through challenges. -we silent read. -we had gym with Mrs. Rowarth. -we read "Flight of the Honey Bee". Ask me some things we learned from the book. Field Trip on Thursday. Please dress for the weather. Students will need a backpack with a snack, lunch, water bottle, Parents may want to send/wear bug spray and sunscreen. Cross your fingers for good weather on Thursday. Parent volunteers can arrive at 8:00, as we will leave at 8:15 am.
Today: -we wrote from our journal eggs. Ask me what I wrote about. -our wonder of the day was about time travel. Ask me what time I would travel to if I could. -Ms. Keir's class practiced double digit subtraction, while Mrs. Byciuk's class did a measurement problem. -we did a number problem about different groups of objects. -we had silent reading. -we had Social Studies. Mrs. Byciuk's class worked on the Pangea map. Ms. Keir's class was with Mrs. Goodwin and made an Acadian boat. -we had gym and music. No school tomorrow or Monday! Today: -we used the making 10 strategy in math message to add 5 numbers. -we have a new bee poem to share with you this weekend. -we talked about sculpture. Sculpture is 3D art. We are making a sculpture out of our hands. We started to trace and cut out our hands in different colours. -Ms. Keir took us to gym. -we went to watch the grade 4's book talks. -we did Cosmic Yoga. -we read the BFG. -we had silent reading and went to the learning commons. No school on Friday and Monday! Did you know that bees are very clean animals. They poop outside of their hives and will never land in poop (we like this one)!
Today: -we practiced our making 10 strategy with 5 numbers in math message. -we had music. -Ms. Keir's class worked on a measurement problem while Mrs. Byciuk's class worked on double digit subtraction. -we silent read or did literature circles. We don't have school on Friday, so student who didn't finish literature circle work, it is due on Wednesday of next week. -we finished our first insert of our bee book. Ask me that 2 facts that I chose to write about. -we read the rest of our Titanic book. We loved it and learned so much. Bar U field trip forms are overdue. We are missing a couple. Did you know that Honeybees are not native to where we live? They are brought here for agricultural reasons! Today: -we worked on the making 10 strategy for math message. -we finished our "me" writing. -a friend of Mrs. Leonard's came in to talk to us about bees. She had her PHD in bees and was full of knowledge. We learned soooo much. -we silent read. -started our paper bag book about bees. We brainstormed all the things we learned this morning and worked on our "insert". We started writing an interesting fact. -we had gym and music. Today:
-we started a new math message. We needed to remember all of the numbers that add up to 10. -we used our plan to write about ourselves. We wrote about what we look like on the outside, what we are like on the inside and what we can do. -we had gym with Miss Mcnabb or Mrs. Byciuk -we tried the problem again from last week. Ask me if I was able to find the 2 numbers my partner started with. -we had Social Studies all afternoon. We started learning about a new type of people. Ms. Keir's class went to Mrs. Goodwin to learn about the Acadians. Ask me what I did. Mrs. Byciuk's class was with Ms. Keir learning about the Inuit. We wrote about what we know and what we wonder about the Inuit. We started learning about Pangea. Ask me what that is. Bar U Ranch is allowing a total of 10 volunteers for both classes. We now have 10, so do not require any more volunteers. We have only had one of our 10 volunteers offer to drive to Bar U so far and still need at least 3 more to drive. We only have a bus that can hold 55, which means there is not enough room for all of our volunteers. Please contact Ms.Keir or Mrs. Byciuk if you can drive or carpool with another parent.
Today: -we got to look at a picture book that one of our classmates had made of when she went to Scotland, London and Paris. We loved it. -we had an assembly with a famous Celtic fiddler/composer. We loved it! -we had our last Social Studies class in this round. Mr. Fred talked with Mrs. Byciuk's class about the Acadians. Ms. Keir's class learned about school in Pioneer days. They got to do some lessons out of a real school book. They also talked about/look at pictures of what school life was like. Ask me whether I would rather have gone to school in the past or now and why. -we silent read. -we tested our boats. Ask me if mine floated and held a load. Ask me what I would change next time. We wrote our conclusion and Ms. Keir took a picture of us with our boats. -the guest teacher took us out to play at the end of the day. If you haven't already, please send back field trip forms. Bar U Ranch is allowing us to have 10 volunteers in total for both classrooms. We now have enough volunteers. Thank you so much for your help. Our bus holds exactly 55 people, which means that we only have enough room for 6 volunteers to ride with us. Of our 10 volunteers, we are looking for at least 4 volunteers to drive their own car to the site, meeting us there. Please email Mrs. Byciuk or Ms. Keir if you are able to help us out with this.
Today: -we continued practicing double digit addition using a more efficient way. -we had music with Ms. Henderson. -Ms. Keir's class had Ketchup time in measurement centers while Mrs. Byciuk's class practiced double digit addition. -we were challenged with a new math problem. We were given 2 groups of numbers and chose 1 from each group, then we chose whether to add or subtract. Once we got our answer, we gave it to a friend. They had to figure out what 2 numbers we started with. We loved it and will continue with the same problem tomorrow. -we had silent reading or literature circles. Some of us in literature circles may have to finish our job at home for Friday. -we made our first prototype of our boats from our plan. We tested them with a load and tried to improve them. Tomorrow we will officially test them. -we had gym with Mrs. Rowarth. We learned how to use the Jump Bands. Scholastic book orders due tomorrow! We are trying out a new type of program for lunch called the Lunch Lady. Please see information that went home today about Thursday! Field Trip forms coming home today. Please send back the bottom of the letter if you can volunteer. We will need at least 7 volunteers for both classes. Thank you for your support with the grade 2 assembly. The students have been working very hard in Social Studies and were excited to share a little bit about what they have been learning.
Today: -we started a new math message. We learned that for double digit addition questions without regrouping, we can use ones and tens to add quickly. -we chose a new Journal Egg. Ask me what I wrote about. -we had gym with Miss Tennis or Ms. Keir. -we had Social Studies all afternoon. Mrs. Byciuk's class were with Ms. Goodwin. Ask me what I did. Ms. Keir's class learned about toys in Pioneer Days. They learned how to make a corn husk doll and made one for their trunks. They also put together an artifact about pioneer dancing. |
